Before an animator even starts to thumbnail (let alone open up a program!), he /she should always apply the WOFAIM method to his scene. Jason Ryan uses it (supervising animator at Dreamworks and founder of Ianimate) for every scene he does, so it might just be a good idea to try it out too.
